Dr. Miao graduated from Harvard University in 1984 and the University of Southern California School
of Medicine in 1991. He completed his orthopaedic training at the University of Pittsburgh and received
advanced fellowship training in knee and shoulder arthroscopic and reconstructive techniques as well
as sports medicine. Dr. Miao is board certified and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons. Prior to joining DOC, he was the orthopaedic consultant to a large family practice/sports
medicine fellowship in California. He specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopic and reconstructive
surgery of the knee and shoulder. He was also an Olympic swimmer in the 23rd Olympic Games in
Los Angeles, California. Dr. Miao emphasizes a careful and thoughtful approach to medicine decision
making and encourages patients' education and active participation in their own care.
